Gridded Sun

2026 · Oil on canvas · 100 × 100 cm · Invisible Imprisonments

The painting distils the image of a gridded sun, drawn from the artist’s childhood, into a single, simple symbol. When a person looks at the world long enough through bars created by family, culture and society, they begin to regard this as the only possible view. Light appears as confinement allows it to be seen. The work does not resolve the contradiction; it makes it visible. The sun still holds light and colour. The question is whether the grid belongs to the sun or to the way we have learned to look at it.
